Like thousands of young women in Miami, Fiona chose to photograph her Sweet 16 photos in Miami at Vizcaya. Vizcaya is known for it’s beautiful gardens and quinceañeras have flocked here for years for photos in their gorgeous gowns.
The day before her big party, Fiona and her family met us at Vizcaya for a session to celebrate her 16th birthday. On weekdays, the photography permit at Vizcaya is just $250, more on the weekend. We arrived at the gardens at 3pm to take advantage of the best light. Being June in south Florida, it was a HOT one, but the family were troopers and let me show them all my favorite spots around the gardens.
Fiona was pure elegance – from her cream colored dress down to her fingernails. I’m also a big fan of her deep red drop earrings, and how we found the same pop of color in florals around the estate.
My approach to Sweet 16 photos in Miami:
My goal with sessions like these is to make the subject comfortable. I don’t like stiff posing, and don’t want these young ladies to view their photos years from now and cringe. Their sessions should reflect who they are, in this moment, and not someone the media thinks they should be. I’m their #1 fan on the day of their session and will hype them up any chance I get. I truly try to make them feel like stars when we work together.
