While I've officially retired from wedding photography, I might make an exception for a truly special, intimate elopement that sparks my creativity. If you think your celebration fits the bill (or you’re feeling adventurous about breaking my no-wedding rule), feel free to reach out! Please note, I’m no longer accepting bookings for traditional weddings or events planned far in advance. Otherwise, feel free to check out our photo experiences at jujubooth.com
Ah, the last blog post of 2021, and what better way to go out than with this wedding in Brunswick, Georgia. I know Georgia is hardly a “destination” hot spot, but I’ve never been one to gush on locations over people. This couple is special – I met Candice years ago at a local beer event, and she’s since been a huge supporter of Sonju Photography and Juju Booth. So when I noticed a ring in one of her Facebook posts, I may or may not have crossed my fingers hoping they’d reach out…
At the start of the pandemic, Candice and Steven purchased a Victorian house in Brunswick, GA. It needed a ton of love, and while they were hesitant at first, they poured their souls into the project and made it a home. From plaster to wallpaper, rotting foundation to copper flashing, Candice, Steven, their children, and their new neighborhood friends turned that house into HOME. (Keep up with the “Sweet Hart House” renovations here!)
Their wedding in Brunswick, Georgia will forever be a favorite. And not because of the renovated home or the Spanish moss dripping from the oak trees in the square. But because of their family, friends, and guests – you could literally FEEL the love under that tent. One of Candice’s best friends gave a heartwarming roast/spoken word performance and her other bestie married them with the sweetest ceremony I have ever witnessed.
Listen, I cry a lot at weddings. A LOT. This one’s different, though. The glow of the Sweet Hart in the background, the energy of the live band, a gospel choir belting out the sweetest love songs, and the warmth of their favorite people made this night one I’ll never forget. Brunswick, you stole my heart with every click of the shutter that weekend in December.
They got ready together (and her jumpsuit – *chefskiss*)
Candice and Steven walked into the tent unannounced, as the spoken word performance started.
Her best friend married them, complete with a handfasting ceremony with their children (and of course, a “Rick-Roll” moment)
Right after their first kiss, a SOUL TRAIN LINE to “We Are Family”
No cocktail hour, no assigned seating, and small plates that represented him, her, and them as a couple.
The coolest vintage phone answering machine – guests left their well wishes after the beep!
Candice karaoke’d to Prince, and throughout their cake-cutting. Lady Gaga’s “Yoü and I” was stuck in my head for days.
Ok enough words- here’s way too many photos highlighting the best day ever:
