Sayuri and Julian have been repeat clients of mine. From their engagement session, to their wedding, to some branding photos for the new business she’s building. And now with their South Florida maternity session, it’s been such a treat to document their lives together.

So when this new mama reached out for a maternity session, you know I had to jump at the chance! After all, thanks to COVID I’ve been pretty bored sitting at home daydreaming about sessions.

Sayuri sent over some inspiration photos for her maternity session and we racked our brains trying to find a lush, garden-like setting in South Florida. Choosing a location brought its own problems, as it’s currently summer, and we’re in the middle of a worldwide pandemic, so most places were closed or asking for expensive permits.

And then it hit me – why not photograph their maternity session at the Bamboo Gallery, where they got married!

The day of their session the skies were dark, gloomy, and grey. Sayuri’s hopes of warm backlit sunshine were fizzling away. But I had a plan (and the knowledge and equipment) to bring my OWN sunshine! With the help of a single off-camera-flash, I brought their vision to life as we explored the gardens.

We had about an hour and a half on site for their session, which gave us plenty of time for a wardrobe change. It also gave us time to include some photos with their cute pup Noah!
