Intimate LGBTQ South Florida Wedding

Weddings

“Pride” is not just for June. Pride is year round. And marriage equality is a human right.

I was hired just days before their intimate LGBTQ wedding in Fort Lauderdale. D and P’s best friend wanted to surprise the couple with a photographer and she got my name from another photographer she reached out to. Being part of a close network of wedding professionals in South Florida is one of the best way to get new leads, and it’s such a great feeling to support other photographers when they’re not available. (Be sure to ask your wedding photographer how connected they are in their local community! It will definitely make a difference in case there’s an emergency!)

D and P met a few years ago one night while out dancing. “Dance with me for the rest of my life” was one of the lines they said to each other, so it’s safe to say it was love at first sight. The months flew by and just two weeks after buying their Fort Lauderdale home together, D and P were married in front of 10 of their best friends and more via Zoom.

Think Zoom weddings are just for the pandemic? Think again! I can definitely see live-streaming becoming a part of all weddings through the next couple of years. Couples are realizing that family and friends worldwide can still be a part of their wedding day, even if it’s just through a screen. And I’ll never bash a guest (or my couples!) for having cell phones in the air or wanting to document memories for themselves.

How the couple “broke tradition”

The couple decided to get ready together – which is an intimate wedding trend I ADORE. There’s so many tiny moments that happen before the ceremony and being able to experience them as a couple is a real treat. D and P also walked down the aisle together, and had their own “best persons” standing beside them as they recited their personal, tearful vows to each other. I just met these men an hour before the ceremony and I cried like a Kardashian behind my camera.

Love is love is love is love.

After a quick champagne toast with the Zoom guests, D and P shared their first dance to Taylor Swift’s “Lover” – which is also what they had engraved on the inside of their wedding bands. (Let’s all collectively sigh here – because that is sweet as hell)

Congratulations to my new friend D and P! Here’s to a lifetime of love (and Lover!) and maybe a pool party invite in the future 😉
